Early Education Centre
Ipswich Junior Grammar School’s Early Education Centre (EEC) is our fun and friendly co-educational community of young learners.
Your child can start their learning adventure from Kindy (three and four years of age) and Pre-Prep (four and five years of age) in a safe, warm and stimulating environment where quality care is our highest priority.
The EEC adopts a Reggio Emilia approach to teaching, which places the natural development of children as well as the close relationships they share with their environment, at the centre of its philosophy.
All our caring staff are trained above the required qualifications. We place great importance on continuity of care, meaning we have set rosters and your child has the same teachers each day they attend.
Our enthusiastic teachers guide our boys and girls through a planned, play-based curriculum that is focused on social and personal learning, health and physical development, language and communication, early mathematical understanding and active learning processes.
We have a formal transition program in Term 4 for children moving on to Prep at Junior Grammar, to ensure a smooth start to school life and fewer first-day tears.
We are committed to teaching our children about the environment and sustainability with resources including our recycling system, a worm farm, vegetable patch and our very own chickens, Sooty and Ethel.
Our EEC is a family-friendly environment where parents partner with us as educators. Together we form a team to provide the best care and opportunities for your child. You are kept well informed with an individual portfolio, daily diary contact and our regularly updated digital EEC portal. Our teachers are always on hand for a chat, if needed.
Our boys and girls love their days at our Centre. They have a large natural play space that gives them their own smaller, safe environment to build confidence whilst benefiting from Junior Grammar’s extensive facilities including our Rainforest Walk, Frog Pond and Health Centre staffed by a full-time registered nurse and extensive sporting facilities.
Specialist teachers provide Music, Library, E-STEAM (Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics) and Physical Education lessons.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided daily with a tasty, nutritious menu freshly prepared on-site by our qualified chef.
Both full-time and part-time enrolments are available.
We are a warm and happy community where all our young learners feel like they belong. Join us.

- 8.30am – 2.30pm: Learning Program
- Our learning portion of each day is play-based and is focused on the needs and interests of our EEC children, whilst engaging and challenging them in stimulating learning activities. The program is designed and developed by qualified teaching staff with the aim of developing the knowledge and skills of our children and a smooth transition to Prep.
- 2.30pm – 6.00pm: Afternoon Activities Program
- Our afternoon program begins with afternoon tea followed by outdoor activities. The children then move inside where a range of activities is offered. These activities vary throughout the year and may include construction, art, craft and games.
During the school vacation periods, the EEC operates a Vacation Program, with the exception of two weeks over the Christmas-New Year period when the School and the Centre are closed.
